Healthy Menu for a Week

Losing weight can be the most tedious of acts that one has to face in his/her lifetime to battle health problems or weight issues. I know what it feels like to be ginormous and walk into a store and have myself told that nothing will fit me, or scan other places and have them say, 'Nah nothing will fit you here miss'. It's humiliating really, and the only way to stop the stares, smirks and avoid the nasty salespeople, is to make a conscious decision to lose weight and incorporate a healthier lifestyle. I'm going to help you stick to a healthy menu for a week that you can switch up every now and then to stay interested in the diet, and not lose heart or give in to temptation.

Healthy Menu Ideas - How to Lose Weight Fast

You'll come across many health books on how diet meals plans for weight loss work, to cut back on calories, exercise, join a yoga class and so on, but somehow 300 plus pages on how to do that just doesn't appeal to the public. What they need is some quick answers and tips on how to do the weight loss regime in a way that is healthy and not damaging to the body. I've chalked out some extremely easy ways on how to cut back on excess calories and eat healthy foods as you go along. Also check out this well put together healthy menu for a week diet plan in, 6 meals a day diet menu.

Make Breakfast Time a Priority
Dunk the whole grabbing a slice of buttered toast, gulping down some OJ and whizzing out the door to work or class nonsense. You have to understand that this isn't enough for your body to start out on the day. Take advantage of high metabolic rates in the morning when your body is craving a big breakfast and getting not more than 200 calories of it in the morning. Your metabolism is the rate at which your body is running at to digest food faster and burn fat at a higher pace. In the mornings, these levels are at its peak, and as the day progresses these levels drop down being at its minimum during sundown. So to start your morning with a meal that is fulfilling and wholesome, you'd need to kick start your diet with the following breakfast plan.

  • Rise and shine nice and early, starting your morning at 7 am so that you are out the door just in time for work or wherever else you need to be. Make sure all your milk products are fat free or low fat in nature when it comes to milk, cheese, cream and butter.
  • Start with 2 poached eggs sliced over some lightly buttered brown bread, with a slice/shredding of non fat cheese and dried chives. You can always change it up with an omelet/scrabbled eggs instead, using two eggs (eat eggs twice a week, that is four eggs per week), some chili flakes, basil, olives, a little non fat butter, diced mushrooms, dusting it with some pepper to finish the ensemble.
  • On alternate days opt for oatmeal coupled with berries of your choice, or go for a bowl of bran (no sugar, added fruit or flavors) with low fat milk and fresh diced fruits of your choice to give it more flavor.
  • Some mornings when you feel the need to have an all inclusive meal that doesn't require much time, opt for a shake instead if not a hearty breakfast. Go for a blend of a fruit of your choice, like five strawberries (or any fruit), 1 cup low fat milk, two tablespoons of low fat cream and 1 teaspoon of whey protein. Blitz these together for a well rounded up nutrient drink. Eat with this shake a sandwich of just butter and cheese, lightly toasted or grilled.
  • Always make sure your juices are a hundred percent concentrate, with no preservatives, sugar, regulators and whatever else that sounds like an additive. Either freshly squeeze your juice, or check the ingredients before making your buy.

Munchies and Lunchtime
In between your day, that is, two hours after breakfast and an hour before lunchtime, snack on some healthy nuts like peanuts, cashews or almonds to help boost your metabolism without leaving it running and not fueled in parts. Take just a half bowl portion of nuts (unsalted), or keep some unsalted crackers (whole wheat) on hand. Here's how you can then start off on your relaxing lunchtime meal. For more info on how to make a diet regime your best friend, go to diet meal plans for a week.

  • Opt for grilled or poached chicken or seafood like tuna, salmon or shrimp. Bring either one of these meats together in a salad bowl, tossed with lettuce leaves, olives, basil, olive oil, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers. Bring the salad together with a low fat salad dressing (two tablespoons).
  • You can then have a glass of green tea to help clean out your system that'll keep you refreshed as well. Avoid tea/coffee with milk and cream in it. Opt for plain black coffee/tea with two cubes of brown sugar. Don't believe those sweetner commercials of better sugar alternatives, just go by natural sugars that aren't artificially made to suit one's sweet tooth.
  • If you'd like a meal instead of a filling salad, you can have a healthy casserole instead (manage your portions; don't make this dish a habit) that's been baked to perfection using either vegetables or protein rich meats. Don't be afraid to incorporate beef into your diet twice a month in your meals.
  • You can always make a vegetable/meat broth at home and heat it up later in the day for consumption. Make sure its freshly made in the day and packed in an air tight container when on the move.
  • Don't have more than one meal in the afternoons, or your calorie and portion control will go out of the window.

Evening/Nighttime Meal
This time of the day calls for light eats and no heavy consumption. After lunchtime the only thing that has to enter your system before nighttime is lots of water and a small bowl of nuts again two hours after lunch. Keeping a gap of two hours will promote a less bloated stomach and control its urge to protrude when crowded with food/drinks. Never eat until you are full, since that heightens your chances of sporting an obese tummy.

  • When you turn in for the day, what you eat post 6 pm has to be extremely light on your stomach. Have another glass of green tea, which is a great detoxifying drink to rid the body of unnecessary waste. Have a mini fruit salad without the dressing, or go for unsalted whole wheat crackers with low fat cream cheese.
  • Soup at this time of the day is advisable, to end your night on a light note. Do not eat anything after 8 pm, not even water. Drink lots of it though during the day and avoid carbonated beverages and high carbohydrate foods like white bread, sugary foods and preservative ridden junk.
  • Activity is crucial during this time, since when on the diet with no exercise or physical activity, you'll see results after a while only and not immediately. So try and make it a habit to use the staircase and not the elevator, walk around your neighborhood everyday for at least 30 minutes or jog/skip if you'd prefer. The choice is yours to opt for any method of physical movement to rev up your metabolism everyday.
  • Eat your favorite foods on one dedicated day in the weekend, like on Sundays where you can eat your heart out.

When going by this healthy menu for a week plan, you can always interchange your food items keeping in mind that fatty based foods should be avoided, including excessive bad carbohydrates that promote fat accumulation. Within a week you'll notice a less puffier appearance to yourself and you'll slowly witness changes in a month or so. Have a healthy tomorrow.

Breast Cancer: Catching It Early!

Until scientists can find what exactly causes breast cancer and provide a safe and healthy way to get rid of it, you ladies will just have to do what is necessary to keep your breast as healthy as possible.

In simple words, breast cancer is a bunch of cells in the breast that become abnormal for some reason. This is why cancer often starts small, in a certain section of the breast and spreads from there.

There are many types of cancers. Each type can be more dangerous than the other and the only way to find out is by having a diagnosis done. There are cancers that are predictable. The cancers that are unpredictable are created by the use of estrogen in the body.

The different stages of breast cancer itself will depend mainly on the size of the tumor and if the cancer has spread or not. When breast cancer first develops, there are usually no symptoms. Women are totally taken unawares to a disease which, if uncontrolled, can be traumatic and devastating for them and their loved ones.

Is Breast Cancer or any other form of cancer anyone's fault? No Way! Yet, the fact remains that cancer remains one of the largest killer disease in the world. The medical profession is deeply involved in research, looking for the right cures. Yet, people continue to die!

To reduce this tragic loss it is up to us to take the right care to stay as far away from cancer as possible. Evidence proves that a diet rich in fats causes many types of cancers. What a high-fat diet does is it steps up the body’s production of free radicals, which damage healthy cells. A high-fat diet also increases bile acid. Bile acid has been known to digest fats but too much of it can cause a production of cancer-causing compounds. The best way to reduce a lot of fat is to eat less meat, dairy, and processed foods.

The American Cancer Society lists alcohol as a major factor and contributor of breast cancer. What the study indicated was that the more alcohol women consumed, the greater the risk . Also, women who drank at least a half glass of wine daily, increased their chance of breast cancer by 18%. Smoking is equally harmful.

There are certain situations that neither you, nor your doctor can control. These situations include your genes and family history. But if you can learn to eat right and make certain lifestyle changes, you will greatly lower greatly the chance of you getting breast cancer and if you are among the unfortunate ones, you will find your cancer reduced or eliminated.

The key to eliminating breast cancer is by catching it early. Most experts recommend women age 20 and older should get their breasts examined once a month during the week following their menstrual period and women between the ages 20 and 39 should have an examination of their breasts at least once every 3 years.

8 Tips for Easier Weight Loss Without Dieting

Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in the 21st century. The vast majority of overweight people want to lose their excess weight and become healthier. And the first thing people usually do to achieve this goal is find a fad diet to get on. But the problem with these diets is that most of the weight you lose when you're on the diet is water weight and comes right back as soon as you come off the diet. The fact of the matter is that diets don't work in the long term for most people.
Would it make a difference in your life if you knew how to lose weight without having to worry about dieting? You can get the ball rolling without having to follow a strict diet. Just make these easy but very effective changes to your lifestyle that will help you lose weight – and keep it off.

Learn to Read Labels

In order to lose weight you have to start paying attention to food labels. You won’t be able to effectively count calories if you are unable to determine a serving size and its calorie count. When you start to compare the labels of different items you will be able to make much healthier choices. Once you are making healthy choices about what you eat you will have more success with weight loss.

Snack Smart

You will be able to maintain your blood sugar and prevent overeating if you get in the habit of eating something every three hours or so. Allowing yourself to get too hungry will hinder your efforts to lose weight. You will be able to control the portions you eat and make healthier choices if you are not starving yourself. Choose a satisfying but healthy snack like a slice of low-fat cheese along with an apple. Even though eating more often may seem counter intuitive, snacking wisely will make it easier to lose weight.

Eat Plenty of Produce and Whole Grains

Eating plenty of vegetables, fruit, and whole grains will do more than just improving your overall health and reducing your risk of heart disease; they also aid with weight loss. You will be able to eat more of these items since they are low in calories. Filling up on these healthy foods will leave less room for you to fill up on less healthy foods. Additionally, whole grain food items contain plenty of fiber which will help you feel more satisfied. These items are really helpful when trying to avoid overeating and practice portion control which will help you lose weight.

Eat Often and Eat Enough

Skipping meals is a very bad idea when you are trying to lose weight. Many times people will decide to skip meals in an effort to cut calories, but they usually don’t end up losing weight this way. You will be prone to overeating when you finally decide to eat something. If you don’t eat regular meals your body will try to conserve calories and goes into starvation mode. Sometimes this will cause you to gain rather than lose weight.

Drink Adequate Amounts of Water

Water is important for several reasons when you are trying to lose weight. Believe it or not, drinking more water will help get rid of excess water weight and will alleviate bloating. By replacing drinks that are high in calories with water, you will save hundreds of calories. Don’t wait until you feel thirst to drink water since thirst is often mistaken for hunger. This can result in overeating. Keeping your body properly hydrated will give you a feeling of well being which keeps you motivated to lose weight.

Start Moving

It will be very difficult to lose weight and keep it off if you aren’t getting regular exercise. Start today by going for a bike ride or taking a brisk walk. Start off with just 10 minutes a day and work your way up to 30 to 40 minutes. Try to do this most days of the week and you will begin reaping health benefits and seeing weight loss within a few weeks. Additionally, exercise will jump start a sluggish metabolism, making it easier to drop the weight.

Practice Portion Control

It may seem like a real chore to measure your food, but is a necessity if you really want to lose weight. When you begin compare what your typical serving would have been to the measured recommended serving size. Don’t be surprised if you realize you were eating 2 or 3 times the amount that is recommended. You won’t have to measure forever; you will eventually learn to eyeball the portion size which is an invaluable skill for long term weight loss.

Keep a Diary

The first thing that anybody that wants to lose weight should do is keep a food diary. Write down anything and everything you eat and note the time that you ate it. You can do this in a notebook. Keeping a food diary will help you identify any changes that need to be made for you to lose weight.

The Insulin war

Unless you have been living in a cave without electricity for the last 75 years, you are likely aware that "Insulin", a hormone produced and secreted by the pancreas, is absolutely necessary to control blood sugar. You also likely know that if you do not produce enough insulin, your blood sugar count will remain high and you will be diagnosed as a Diabetic (referring to the disease of "Sugar Diabetes").
Diabetes Association statistics tell us that we find a new Diabetic every 8 minutes in Canada (over 60,000 new cases per year - do the math). More alarming to me is the fact that the same statistic just 6 years ago was one new Diabetic every 23 minutes - a 3 fold increase in just 6 years.
Many people may not realize that the Diabetes "epidemic" is that of the type II variety which is a situation where the pancreas does produce or even over produce insulin but for some or many reasons certain cells have become "Insulin Resistant". Other names used are - carbohydrate intolerant, or glucose intolerant or glucose resistant.
Historically, man developed the ability to produce insulin through a genetic adaptation fondly referred to as the THRIFTY GENE. Insulin became the hormone responsible for storing surplus sugars (the digestive product of all carbohydrates) in muscle cells as Muscle Glycogen (athlete know about that), liver glycogen and body fat- also known as tri-glycerides.
I works like this: digested carbohydrates become blood sugar. Blood sugar triggers the pancreas to release the hormone insulin. Insulin directs the sugars to their appropriate storage depots. When the glycogen stores are full due to eating many carbohydrates or due to physical inactivity, the surplus is stored as fat. When blood sugar drops, Insulin follows suit and drops. This allow the pancreas to release it other hormone - glucagon - which is responsible for mobilizing fat from stores and making it available for energy. Like an energy bank.
The problems arise when we constantly eat too many carbohydrates which keep the insulin production high and therefore the glucagon production low. We tend to always be in the STORAGE MODE. This can be aggravated by choosing carbohydrates that raise the blood sugar very quickly (sugar drinks, sugar snacks, white flour products are a few examples) and are known as High Glycemic Index foods. These high GI foods create a situation of chronic hyper insulinemia. This condition, experienced by about 70 per cent of the population is responsible for the obesity epidemic which is coinciding with the diabetes epidemic. High insulin is also partly or wholly responsible for insatiable appetites, elevated cholesterol, tri-glycerides, and blood pressure. Insulin also interferes with the production of some of our other hormones responsible for controlling inflammatory conditions.
To control the insulin war try to eat very complex carbohydrates and to eat some protein in every meal and every snack. Eat some of the protein food in your meal or snack first - before eating or drinking your carbohydrate. This will reduce the rate of rise in blood sugar thus controlling the rate of release and quantity of release of the insulin hormone. If you follow these few simple rules you will have more energy throughout the day, control your weight with ease and generally be healthier

Diet to Reduce Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a fatty substance which is found in the blood. It is mainly made in the body. It plays a necessary role in the functioning of every cell in the body. However, too much cholesterol in the blood can increase your risk of heart problems. There are various things you can do to control your cholesterol levels. Cholesterol is carried around the body by proteins. These combinations of cholesterol and proteins are called lipoproteins. There are two main types of lipoproteins:

- LDL (low-density lipoprotein) is the harmful type of cholesterol.
- HDL (high-density lipoprotein) is a protective type of cholesterol.

Having excessive harmful cholesterol in your blood can augment your risk of getting cardiovascular diseases. The risk is particularly high if you have a high level of LDL cholesterol and a low level of HDL cholesterol. The cholesterol which is found in some foods such as eggs, liver, kidneys and some types of seafood like prawns, does not usually make a great contribution to the level of cholesterol in your blood. It is much more important that you eat foods that are low in saturated fat. However, some people have high blood cholesterol even though they eat a hale and hearty diet. For example, they may have inherited a condition called familial hyperlipidaemia (FH) which is usually genetic.

High cholesterol is probably one of the most modifiable risk factors when it comes to heart disease. The good news is that by making a few simple adjustments to your diet, you can help to lower your cholesterol. There are many ways to you can do this from following a cholesterol-lowering meal plan to adding in diet a few foods that aid in lowering cholesterol. There are a lot of ways to help make your diet lipid-friendly. A low cholesterol diet is not hard to follow, given the variety of foods available. Many food manufacturers also have low fat, low cholesterol foods available for people who do not have the time to fix elaborate meals. When you are shopping for such foods, be sure to look at the labels to follow the ingredients.

The following diet can help you in controlling your high cholesterol:
Fruits and Vegetables

Always consume loads of fruits and vegetables as they are low in calories and fat. Furthermore, these delicious groceries won’t raise your cholesterol levels.
Fats and Oils

Try to reduce your intake of saturated fats, since consuming foods with these fats could raise your cholesterol levels and place you at a higher threat of get hold of heart diseases. You should avoid any foods that state they contain partially hydrogenated vegetable oils, such as those used in many margarines and shortenings, contain a particular form of saturated fat known as Trans fats. These can raise blood cholesterol levels (including LDL, the bad cholesterol), just like saturated fat, and can also promote the formation of waxy, cholesterol plaques on your arteries. When cooking with oils, you should use olive and canola oils, which are particularly high in monounsaturated fats or vegetable oil, which is high in polyunsaturated fats. Unlike saturated and Trans fats, unsaturated fats can help lower your cholesterol and keep your heart healthy.
Breads and Grains

Use whole grain foods instead of foods containing white flour. Recent studies have indicated that ingesting high amounts of carbohydrates can also raise cholesterol levels and increase your risk of heart disease - especially if you have diabetes.
Dairy

Use low fat or skim dairy products instead of regular, full-fat ones. You'll find that not only does this diminish your risk for heart disease, but it is also responsive to your waistline as well.
Meats

Cook with lean meats, such as chicken, fish or turkey, instead of red meat. Leaner meats will not raise your cholesterol levels as much as red meat. For example, using ground turkey meat instead of ground beef is a delicious substitute. On fattier cuts of meat, make sure that you trim the fat off properly before consuming it.

List of edibles that help reducing your cholesterol:

   1. Whole grains and oats
   2. Blueberries
   3. Pistachios
   4. Walnuts
   5. Almonds
   6. Avocados
   7. Olives
   8. Flaxseed Oil
   9. Olive Oil
  10. Cranberry juice
  11. Fish and Fish Oil
  12. Black Soy-beans
  13. Pomegranate juice
  14. Vara churna – a herbal blend containing fibrous pulp of fruits of emblica officinalis, terminalia chebula and terminalia bellerica. It is also cleansing

So go ahead with your cautious diet plan and control your cholesterol so that you just not avoid cardiovascular diseases, but also shape up your body.

Wheat Grass Juice - A Remarkable Gift from Nature

We can call it the king of juices. The Wheat Grass juice is a fabulous gift from nature to mankind. As it is said “All Big Things Come in Small Packages” and Wheat Grass is a no exception. It is packed with natural vitamins, minerals, chlorophyll and enzymes that are required for the body and make it an ideal food supplement for dieters, athletes or anyone suffering from illness.

Dr. Ann Wigmore - Patron of Wheat Grass Juice

This miracle drink was discovered by Dr. Ann Wigmore, a nutritionist and holistic health practitioner in the United States, better known as “the mother of living foods”. She founded the Hipocrates Health Institute in 1968 and had pioneered the use of Wheat Grass juice and other living foods for detoxifying and healing the body and mind. The lady herself was living proof of Wheat Grass therapy. Having learned that she had a colon cancer she switched to a completely living food lifestyle. How to Grow Wheat Grass at Home

Though you can always obtain organic and fresh Wheat Grass from your nearest health food store or naturopathic clinic, it’s a better idea to grow it for yourself at home. It’s quite easy to do.
Take 3-4 plastic cafeteria tray or earthen pots and fill them with clear wet black soil. Soak the wheat berries for 10-12 hours. Then drain and pat them on to the soil. Put another tray over the top to keep the light out and let the moisture inside. Starting four days later, water your sprouts daily and keep them in light until they are 7-inches high. Now it’s time to harvest your grass. Just cut it above the soil and you can store it in the refrigerator for about a week. Obtain the juice using a manual or electrical juicer. You can take 15 ml of concentrated juice or a glass of diluted juice daily. It is better to take it on an empty stomach in the morning and as fresh as possible.

How to Burn Fat

Put quite simply, to burn fat, you must expend more calories than you ingest. Certainly, this rule can prove hard to conform to. However, with a little perseverance and discipline, the pounds will come off.
Before you eat, ask yourself if you really feel hungry or if you want to eat because you feel bored. If you are hungry, eat, but only until you feel full! Steer clear of greasy fast food, t.v. dinners, and junk food. Peruse your local farmer’s market and stock up on goodies like fresh tomatoes, lettuce, and beets. Eat these natural foods and stop eating when you feel comfortable, not Thanksgiving-level full. You’re probably thinking “how to burn fat in addition to eating right?” Of course, eating well plays an integral part in weight loss, but one should also exercise.
I have experienced the best results when I run first thing in the morning before I have eaten anything. These morning runs eliminate the need for coffee—which saves calories and money—and I noticed myself getting toned faster than when I did afternoon workouts. Run for twenty to thirty minutes and change up your course so you do not get bored. After running, do ab workouts and lifting. After a month, you may want to change the order of these activities to preserve your interest.
Just remember, if you really want to burn fat, do not lose focus. Keep carrots or celery with you at all times to fight snack attacks at the office. Stay motivated in any way you can—I do this by reading superficial magazines such as “Shape” and “Glamour.” Go with some of the old tricks; weigh yourself every week to monitor your progress and put a mirror up on the fridge. Celebrate your weight loss victories by rewarding yourself with, say, that expensive garment you have always wanted. Most importantly, be realistic. Do not expect to lose more than a pound or two per week.

Adolescent Weight Management and Fitness

Are your kids growing up well? Are they healthy and strong or are they just growing vertically (and often horizontally too)? What are your son’s or daughter’s diet requirements? Are they receiving adequate amount of calories or are you worried they might be gorging on the wrong type of calories i.e. empty calories from sodas or overdoses of calories from junk foods?
As a parent you will probably agree that your child’s diet is quite unpredictable. Without proper supervision our kids will probably avoid entire food groups and only consume what they love i.e. carbohydrates and fats. It is a proven fact that weight and nutrition deficiencies, lack of energy, lack of concentration etc. can all be traced to faulty or imbalanced diet. The solution to the problem is pretty simple – we need to take an active interest in our child’s diet, healthy food pyramid for kids as well as physical activity. Doing so will not only make adolescent weight management plans and fitness much easier to handle it will also bring about a sense of wellbeing amongst your kids.
Research is usually designed to study weight loss, although adolescent health specialists have long stressed the importance of focusing on all the benefits of weight loss management programs that lead to improved overall health and well being. Methods designed to achieve rapid weight loss through starvation, inappropriate strenuous exercise, and/or drugs can be harmful.
Most of us are painfully aware that obesity is of epidemic proportions in this country. This epidemic has resulted in increased incidences of obesity-related disease. An obese child therefore becomes much more susceptible to diabetes, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. Because obesity is 70 percent genetic and 30 percent dependent upon psychosocial and environmental factors, obese parents often tend to accept their children’s obesity rather than seek to correct it.
Adopting the correct Weight Loss Strategy
Most of the experts including nutritionists and fitness experts recommend that our obese children be put on a healthy eating diet and are encouraged to exercise and modify the eating habits. Some may even recommend the occasional use of special medication. Unfortunately, all this often proves to be ineffective for most people suffering from obesity. The popular “mantra” is “eat less, eat right and exercise, exercise, exercise”.
Unfortunately this would be like telling a depressed person to think “happy” thoughts or a diabetic to control diabetics by eating less sugar and follow healthy eating diet plan. Initially all diets do seem to work – not because it is the right strategy but simply due to the fact that on one hand, calorie intake is reduced and on the other hand, more calories are burned through exercise.
All diets are ineffective in the long run. This is because of physiological reasons unique to humans. Here’s what happens; as soon as your child begins to eat less, the decreased calorie intake forces the metabolism to slow down. This is essentially an automatic compensatory response mechanism. Instead, encourage your child to eat the daily requirement of calories from all the food groups. NOTHING MORE, NOTHING LESS. The only foods that need to be removed from the menu are junk and other unhealthy foods.
Along with a correction in the type of food consumed, encourage your child to exercise or a have a high level of physical activity in their daily routine. The results will not be seen overnight but nevertheless, positive results will appear within a month or two. Once your child loses the extra flab, his (or her) self esteem and sense of empowerment will be heightened.

Healthy Eating Diet Advice

We all know how to eat. Diet means knowing what to eat. Thanks to the internet, everybody knows what not to eat (sweets, junk food etc.) but there seems to be a lot of confusion about what to eat. On this diet advice and Healthy Eating plan page we try to answer that question – specifically, what should be in our diet.
Carbohydrates (Carbs)
Our first healthy eating diet advice and healthy eating diet plan is to eat your carbs. Carbohydrates are vital because it provides us the energy for our day to day activity. It is our “battery” that powers us through the day. Additionally, carbohydrates play an important role in the synthesis of our DNA, our hormones, create powerful antioxidants and protect our cells and tissues from damage and ageing. Apart from all this, carbohydrates help in the functioning of our brain cells. Which is why if we are hungry, we can’t seem think straight. If we are low on carbs, our brain cells draw energy from limited reserve fuel supply (similar to your car switching to reserve gas when you fuel tank is empty). When that is depleted, our brain puts the body into sleep mode and kind of shuts down. So now you know just how important carbohydrates are. But are all Carbohydrates good? No of course not. But that’s an issue we shall tackle elsewhere.
Proteins
Our second healthy eating diets advice is to explain why we need proteins and its importance to your body. We’ve all been told that we need to include proteins in our diet but do you know why we need proteins? Proteins are needed to make antibodies which are our primary defense mechanism against diseases and infections. Proteins are required to contract and relax our muscles. So without proteins you would not be able to pick up that cup of coffee that will provide the carbohydrates to power your brain and body. Hormonal Proteins are the body messengers. They pick up signals and instructions and carry them across to the required destinations. Hormonal proteins are the “runners” within your body. Proteins make up the cells within us and create the connective tissues, tendons and ligaments. Finally, along with carrying messages, proteins perform another vital function – they transport nutrients throughout the body.
Fats
When we say people should eat fats we get looks that seem to suggest we might have lost our marbles. Our third healthy eating diet advice and healthy eating and exercise is to explain why fats are vital to our body. Fat is the long term slow release reserve energy source in our body. It gets utilized at times of distress and illness. In times gone by when surviving was tough and sickness was common, the body utilized the fat reserves to release energy required to survive. Fat is the only nutrient that can help us survive through the toughest phases of our life. Further, only fat can metabolize vitamin A,E,K and D which are also known as fat soluble vitamins. Believe it or not, fat actually protects vital organs such as the heart, kidneys, liver, lungs etc. Fat also insulates your body and prevents heat loss (Which is why overweight people feel hot quickly). Fat stimulates the flow of bile from the gall bladder. Fat also plays a vital role in pregnancy as it is required for milk production and growth of the foetus. Also, we bet you did not know that 60% of your brain is made up of fat. Finally, fat is the grease that lubricates the joints.
Water
Our fourth healthy eating facts advice is on water and its importance to your body. For survival, water is the most important element that our body needs. Without water, you cannot utilize the nutrients that come from carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Modern lifestyle, lack of exercise and stress has dulled out thirst mechanism. Instead of drinking water, we drink beer, sodas and juices all which only aggravate the problem and leads to dehydration. Dehydration leads to dullness because the body is unable to process the food you eat. In turn we rush to consume “energy pills” that promise to perk up your life and so on and so forth.
Water
In this article on healthy eating diet advice and Healthy eating menu, we have explained that carbohydrates, proteins, fats and water must form part of your diet. We have also explained why. In other articles on this site we have explained the various foods that contain carbohydrates, proteins and fats and also explained the quantities that you should be consuming.

Get Rid of Your Diabetes

Today, there are at least 20 million people living with diabetes in America and the sad part is that it is possible to prevent and heal pre-diabetes and diabetes type 2 naturally with balanced nutrition, and basic exercise.
People at risk of getting the disease drop by a staggering 60 percent if they manage to lose just 10 pounds by following a healthy diet and engage in regular exercise such as walking, according to a report published in the New England Journal of Medicine. (May 3, 2001).

Pre-Diabetes

This term means that you are at risk for getting type 2 diabetes and also heart disease.
The good news is if you have pre-diabetes you can reduce the risk of getting diabetes type 2 and even return to normal blood glucose levels if you follow the guidelines in this article.

Type 2 Diabetes

Formerly called adult-onset diabetes, this is the most common form of diabetes. This form of diabetes usually begins with insulin resistance, a condition in which the body cannot use insulin properly. People can develop this type of diabetes at any age and is usually associated with today’s modern lifestyle of fast food, stress and no exercise.
Being overweight and inactive increases the chances of developing type 2 diabetes dramatically. Traditional treatment includes taking diabetes medicines, aspirin daily, and controlling blood pressure and cholesterol with prescription drugs.
But with modest weight loss and moderate daily physical activity, you can delay or even prevent type 2 diabetes and lead a normal life. Lets look at a few steps you can use straight away in your daily life that will make a big difference to your condition.
Strength Training - Researchers have reported a 23% increase in glucose uptake after four months of strength training. Because poor glucose metabolism is associated with adult onset diabetes, improved glucose metabolism is an important benefit of regular strength exercise.
Nowadays you do not have to live in a gym to put on functional muscle. Short High Intensity sessions performed once a week is all that is required to improve glucose metabolism and lose weight.
The strength training technique I use requires just twenty to thirty mins per week. Gone are the days of the five-day a week program with 6 to 12 sets per body part that, method has never worked. One short intense strength-training workout a week will elevate your metabolism more than you ever thought possible.
The two main components of this technique are the intensity of the exercise and the recovery after the exercise. Infrequent, short, high intensity weight training sessions, followed by the required amount of time to recover and become stronger is what is needed to increase functional lean muscle and improve glucose metabolism.
Nutrition - The way to lose body fat and maintain muscle is to have a food program for life. Quality food and more energy output are the basics you'll need to go for. Bulk foods that fill you up and don't fill you out, foods that are low in fat and sugar which
aren't refined should be the ideal.
Small frequent meals should be consumed during the day each containing a little protein to maintain muscle and energy levels. Foods with vital vitamin and mineral supplements should also be taken on a daily basis. A high quality broad-spectrum vitamin and mineral supplement should also be taken on a daily basis.
As before get the calories from high quality food but if you can’t, utilize a blender to make concoctions from skim milk with whatever additives you want to use, just as long as you keep count of the calories for your daily total.
Now use these blender mixtures and solid food for your daily feedings. Spread it out over many small meals a day instead of the traditional three meals a day. The way to keep track of weight loss is to buy a calorie counter and record your daily calorie intake for a week.
Exercise - Fat is burned from the body when cells oxidize to release energy in the form of exercise. When the exercise is done slowly to moderately then the majority of energy is taken from the fat stores.
The key to effective aerobic training that burns off maximum fat is long-term consistency not intensity. It doesn’t matter if you run a mile, jog a mile or walk a mile you will burn exactly the same amount of calories.
The best exercise by far for the purpose of fat-loss is fast walking either indoors on the treadmill or outdoors. Other aerobic activities are the treadmill, bike, climber or any other training gear found in or out of the Gym.
You can do a lot to lower your chances of getting diabetes. By exercising regularly, reducing fat from your diet and losing weight can all help you reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes.

Herbal Tea Works like a Herbal Medicine to Reduce Cholesterol

Green tea and cholesterol have a very deep relation. Green tea, a herbal and medicinal supplement have high sedative and beneficial values to turn your body into a desired one. Herbal teas can be made with fresh or dried flowers, leaves, seeds or roots, generally by pouring boiling water over the plant parts and letting them steamed for a few minutes. Seeds and roots can also be boiled on a stove. The tisane is then strained, sweetened if so desired, and served. Many companies produce herbal tea bags for such concoctions. On the other hand, flavoured teas are prepared by adding other plants to an actual tea (black, oolong, green, yellow, or white tea); for example, the popular Earl Grey tea is black tea with bergamot, jasmine tea is Chinese tea with jasmine flowers, and genmaicha is a Japanese green tea with toasted rice.

For the millions and millions of people suffering from high cholesterol green tea may be very light. Your one browse and search over the Internet for topics on green tea and cholesterol would make you land up with hundred of hits.

This new century is expected to become the century of medical miracles, the herbal green tea is one of those miracles according to various researches.

More good news is it's not just green tea and cholesterol; it's also green tea and cancer. Several studies have shown that the antioxidants are present in green tea. The Journal of the National Cancer Institute published the results of an epidemiological study indicating that drinking green tea reduced the risk of oesophageal cancer in Chinese men and women by nearly sixty percent. A study by the University of Kansas determined that EGCG may explain why the rate of heart disease among Japanese men is quite low, even though approximately seventy-five percent are smokers. Habitually drinking 5 to 10 cups a day of green tea also lowers high blood pressure along with the increasing cholesterol.

For more that 4,000 years now, the Chinese have known about the medicinal benefits of green tea since they are also using it to treat everything from headaches to depression.  Drinking green tea also is reported to be helpful with rheumatoid arthritis, Cardio-vascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function.

Green tea is rich in catechin polyphenols, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). EGCG is a good anti-cancer element. Polyphenol limits the negative effects of smoking and a fatty diet; automatically reducing cholesterol thus. Herbal tea leaves are steamed, which prevents the EGCG compound from being oxidized while black and oolong tea leaves are made from dried or fermented leaves, which causes loss of EGCG.

Different kinds of herbal green tea available are:

- Anise tea, made from either the seeds or the leaves.
- Arjun Tea – made from bark of terminalia arjuna plant
- Artichoke tea.
- Roasted barley tea
- Bee Balm
- Boldo
- Cannabis tea
- Caraway tea
- Catnip tea
- Che Dang
- Cinnamon tea
- Coffee tea leaves and coffee cherry tea
- Cerasse, a bitter Jamaican herb.
- Chamomile tea is used as a sedative.

Your Ideal Weight: An Arm-Chair Concoction?

“The fact is that the tables of ‘ideal’ or ‘desirable’ weight are arm-chair concoctions…,” said Professor Emeritus Ancel Keys back in 1980. Not much has changed since then, except new light has been shed on our understanding about a person’s set weight.
A set weight suits one person perfectly and not another. A set weight is one where you can be considered healthy, yet it does not necessarily appear on any height-weight charts.
In view of how height-weight charts were created, they make no sense.
They were initially created by actuary firms and used by life insurance companies to determine the relationship of weight upon a person’s likelihood of living long.
What is the harm, though, in the height-weight charts, since do serve as a much-needed reminder to many of us that we are eating too much of the wrong foods and exercising too little?
Well, height-weight charts unjustly penalize and cause unnecessary anguish in men and women who have natural body weights outside the recommended range. This causes people to engage in unhealthy dieting, seeking to attain and maintain a weight that doesn’t fit them, one that is not on the chart.
Furthermore, reliance on the charts may cause folks who are within the guidelines to continue to engage in unhealthy behaviors, feeling a false security.
None of this is to suggest that there is no such thing as an ideal weight.
For each person there is such a weight, it just may not be found on the charts. So, how will you know if you’re there? The absolutely honest answer to this question is that you may never know for certain.
You can rely upon your own sense of how much effort you are extending to control your weight. You are probably at your ideal weight when you are not trying to do anything to control your weight, but are eating a relatively low-fat, fiber-rich diet abundant in fruits, vegetable, and whole grains, and being physically active.
Trying to say anything beyond that about an ideal weight is impossible, because the ideal for each person is unique to him or her, thanks to the genetic makeup of each person’s body. One critical aspect of that uniqueness is their set point, that body weight that each person tends to maintain over long periods of time, regardless of whether that weight is a good or bad weight.
Though a “set” point is not fully understood, we do know that it exists and operates with precision. Some mechanism within each of us functions to keep our weight fairly constant over time.
This is the crux of the problem with height-weight charts.
Their guidelines do not consider the individual variations in a person’s set point. They can put an “overweight” label on you who happens to be at a healthy size, or they can give you a false sense of security to those who have a different make up of fat cells in their body.
Perhaps the height-weight charts do not measure anything meaningful. The height-weight charts are not a reliable indicator of your personal story of the fat stored in your body’s cells.

The Most Important thing you must do to have a Pain Free Neck

First of all I want you to know that neck and upper back pain are generally easy
to fix. By learning why you are having pain in the first place we can then set
about teaching you how to fix your pain and prevent it from happening in the
future. Sound simple? It is.
The next time you have a look around an office building, a building site, a
school, at bus stop, on a train or practically anywhere you will see people
slouching in their seats, slouching over their computers, lifting with bent backs
and doing a wide range of daily tasks using bad posture. These same people
will also more than likely be suffering from back, neck or shoulder pain (or all
three). They may have constant pain or suffer from ongoing bouts of recurrent
pain. They will probably then go to get treatment from a chiropractor, a
physiotherapist or a masseur or if these don’t work perhaps an acupuncturist.
They may try a yoga class, or the gym or Pilates and try to strengthen and
stretch their muscles only to find that their pain comes back. How can this be
they ask?
The great mystery when it comes to neck pain is that it’s not really all that
mysterious after all. As I have mentioned before, treating your own neck pain
and making sure it does not come back is easy, you just need to know how.
The overwhelming majority of neck pain is from poor posture! If you continue to
slouch at your chairs, or at the computer, or whilst you eat, or continue to lift
poorly or stand poorly you will not have removed the cause of your pain and
thus remain in pain. This is exactly why you can do your well intentioned exercise
course but you still suffer from pain. This is why you can get treated by therapist
after therapist only to see your pain return after awhile. You can see your
chiropractor five times a week but if you then get back into your car from your
treatment and slouch into your seat, go home and slouch in front of the
television, then spend hours slouched in front of your computer and then read in
bed with pillows pushing your head forward you will again experience pain. This
simple piece of knowledge will save you thousands and thousands of dollars in
therapist’s bills and get you off the seemingly never ending cycle of recurrent
bouts of neck pain.
It’s the same with many lower back pain sufferers-People will go to the gym and
do 200 crunches but still have lower back pain because they spend the rest of
the day sitting or standing with poor posture at their home or workplace.( by the
way, you should never ever do sit-ups. More of that later) You must address the
issue of posture in everything that you do. Remember, a treatment here or there
or exercising for ten minutes a day will not do much if you are spending 10 hours
a day slouched over your desk.
This is the great secret to eradicating your pain!
If you have pain in your thumb because you continually hit it with a
hammer all day, and then go to the physiotherapist to get ultrasound
on it, but the next day you are back at work hitting your thumb with a
hammer again-you will of course remain in pain. Your necks and
backs are no different. You must stop hurting, irritating and injuring your neck
each day and night so that your necks can heal exactly like you would with your
thumb. You must remove the causes of your pain. Let’s have a look at exactly
where the problem lies. It is a simple matter of body mechanics.

2. Lie down on the mattress and note whether or not your hips and shoulders sink into the mattress or feel supported.
3. Take a few minutes to try out the mattress. Take 5-10 minutes to lie on your back and 5-10 minutes to lie on each side. Are you a belly sleeper? Take an additional 5-10 minutes to lie on your belly and see how it feels.
4. Spouses should always try out mattresses together.
5. Is your spine aligned? Proper spine alignment ensures that you will sleep more soundly and you'll experience less back pain when waking up in the morning.
6. Mattress pads can be added to any mattress to make it softer or more comfortable.
7. Always search out or wait for the right sale. Mattresses are marked up significantly, so it's a good idea to be patient in order to get the best price.

Keep in mind above all that the best mattress for back pain is the one that provides ample support and firmness for you. The right mattress for one person with back pain might not work for another person, but there are certain mattress brands on the market that back pain sufferers seem to like more than others.

Diets and Dieting Control-Discover how to reach your weight loss goals!

The most effective diet is a diet plan you can stick with by focusing on your goals. Most people have plenty of reasons to diet and certain goals to reach. Whatever your dieting plan is, it’s most effective when it’s one of your own choosing and comfort level. If you intend to improve your health and lose weight it must be internally accepted by you first or just outright personal.
The next step once you’ve decided on your personal goal is to seek good advice from an expert. Check with your local gym facilities and fitness centers to see who can truly understand your fitness goals. Someone should be made available to discuss with you what your goals are and how you intend to get there.
In addition, why not join in on the fun and take part in a fitness program offered by your local gyms, there are a variety to choose from. Remember that everyone is unique and body shapes are different; therefore your diet and fitness program will be tailored to fit your needs. Losing weight and toning up at quick pace is the result of certain diets, so keep in mind that the diet you choose is just right for your body because it can speed things up.
Diet programs are usually for people with no history of health issues. If you change your diet plans due to health issues please keep in mind the experts, in this case your doctor should be sought after for his or her advice. Typically they can share with you certain foods to eat and which ones to avoid depending upon your condition. Your doctor should have full records and information regarding your health in order to determine what works best. Their expertise and advice will help you decide on a diet plan that will work best for you. If anyone can spot potential problems in your diet it should be your doctor. Case in point, if you’re medication prevents blood clots then you should definitely stay away from green vegetables. The doctor should know better for you and make you aware! Rely on them and not the standard advice.
Standard diets become a major problem because they are just plain old standard. If you are looking for average results then standard is the way to go, because it’s designed to fit everyone. Your body builds, fitness level, health and conditions are unique and therefore standard does not understand that. Therefore make it so your body and diet can over stand what fits your best interest.
Furthermore, diets requiring unusual foods or inaccessible foods can become somewhat of a problem. If you depend on these foods to help shape your diet and they are out of season they could become more costly to buy in your geographic location. If this becomes a problem then remain flexible in your diet to include foods that are easier to get.
Don’t start a diet you cannot finish, so keep in mind flexibility and duration. If you have to transition from one diet to another be sure to ease your way out. Let the old diet fade gradually after adopting a new personalized diet. It then becomes much easier to stick with and maximize the potential of your new found diet plan.
Do not stop enjoying the foods you love and be sure to tailor your diet to what your favorite foods are. Cheating on your diet will only make you repeat it again; avoid the temptation of eating your favorite foods by including them. A diet plan that cheats here and there will surely disrupt the flow of weight loss and body tone. Stick to the goal by first creating a personalized diet program.
Last, if your goals are clear, be sure to track your progress. A Progress chart will show you how far you have come and what it will take to reach your goals. This will boost your self esteem and help propel you to victory. Victory being self accomplishment and in this case reaching you diet goals.
